First-Time Users
The Sony Trade-In Program allows you to maximize your investment and upgrade to
the latest Sony technology today. You can receive a trade-in value for your pre-owned
IT and certain pre-owned professional products when you purchase a new eligible
product—making your new Sony purchase even more affordable! You can also donate
your pre-owned products and allow others to be more productive, through the National
Cristina Foundation. Or arrange for your used equipment to be recycled responsibly.

Trade-In Program Deadlines
The following is a list of important dates and deadlines to qualify for the Sony
Trade-in Program.
- Quote Value – The quoted value is valid for 30 days from the date you complete your
trade online.
- Purchasing Your New Sony Product – You must purchase your new Sony product either
30 days prior to or 30 days following the trade transaction date.
The following IT products are eligible for purchase:
• VAIO Notebooks
• VAIO Professional Notebooks
• VAIO Digital Home Products
• Large Format Public Displays
• 3LCD Business Projectors
Certain products from the following professional categories are also eligible:
• Audio
• Cameras/Camcorders
• Storage/VTRs
• Monitors
• Switchers

- Sending Sony Your Purchase Invoice and Acceptance Notification Email - You will
receive an Acceptance Notification email directly after completing your trade online.
You must send to Sony your purchase invoice and the Acceptance Notification by email
within 30 days to:

- Sending in Your Trade-in Product – You will receive instructions on how to send
in your trade-in product within one business day of completing your trade online.
Follow the instructions provided and send in your trade-in product within 30 days
of completing your trade online.
- Receiving Your Rebate Check - Your rebate check will be issued approximately 45
days after the receipt and inspection of your traded-in product and receipt of your
proof of purchase.
Note: The Trade-in Program deadline may change
if you are participating in the Large Deal Desk.
Confirmation Message
You can expect to receive an Acceptance Notification E-mail message following the
completion of your online trade/donation/recycling transaction. We recommend that
you keep a copy for your records. This message will confirm the item(s) you are
trading/donating/recycling, the value of the products, and a quote number. To receive
your trade-in rebate check, print this e-mail and send it along with your proof
of purchase to:

Combining Items In a Trade
The Sony Trade-in program does not require a 1 for 1 ratio. You may trade in multiple
product(s), but you must purchase at least one new eligible Sony product.

Multiple Locations
If you have multiple locations for the products you are trading in, please email

Shipping
Shipping Methods
You are responsible for packing your current product. If you need to purchase packing
materials or a box to return your trade-in product, we suggest one of the following
options:
1) Your local UPS or FedEx Kinkos store
2) OnePak http://onepak.com/
It is important to use our shipping label or shipping placard, as it will be used
to expedite tracking, identification and processing.
After you have accepted the Sony Trade-in terms and conditions, you will be presented
a "shipping instructions" page. This page will provide the instructions you will
follow to return your traded-in product. Within one business day of completing your
trade, an email with the subject line "Sony Trade-in shipping instructions" will
be emailed to the address you provided while registering. The 'Sony Trade-in shipping
instructions email' will provide the steps for retrieving your shipping label or
shipping placard. The 'Sony Trade-in shipping instructions email' will contain embedded
links, simply click on the link and your prepaid, pre-addressed shipping label or
shipping placard will appear. A Microsoft window will direct you on how to print
out your label or placard. Print two copies, and attach one to the shipment of your
trade-in product and retain the second copy for tracking purposes. If you are trading
multiple items, a link for each item will appear in the email.
You have 30 days from the day you completed your on-line trade to return the product.
The trade-in product must be shipped by the "Ship Date" noted on the label.
If you experience technical difficulty in printing these items or you lose your
shipping instructions email, please contact sonycustomerservice@marketvelocity.com.
Lost shipping label
If you have lost your prepaid shipping label or shipping placard, simply refer to
your shipping instructions email and click on the link to print out another label
or placard. If you are unable to locate your shipping instructions email contact
sonycustomerservice@marketvelocity.com
with the following information of a replacement.
- Name
- Address
- E-mail Address
- Quote Number (from Acceptance Notification email)
If more than 14 days has passed since you confirmed your trade, Sony reserves the
right to re-price your transaction quote.
Packing Guidelines
Please follow these guidelines when shipping your trade-in/donation product:
- Wrap the item(s) using plenty of bubble-wrap, or other appropriate packing supplies.
Include all components of the product for return.
- Package the item(s) in a sturdy cardboard box designed specifically for shipping.
Shipping tape that is 2-3 inches wide should be used.
- Tape all edges on the sides, top, and bottom to make sure there are no rough edges
that could be snagged by automated mail processing equipment. We do not recommend
using masking or cellophane tape.
- Attach the prepaid shipping label to the outside of the package. Use a piece of
clear shipping tape over the top of the label.
- Call your local carrier, per your instructions on your e-mail, to have your product
picked up; or drop off the package at a regional shipping location (store locator).
Be sure to keep the tracking number for proof of shipment.
- You have 30 days from the day you completed your on-line trade to return the product.
Once printed, the trade-in product must be shipped by the "Ship Date" noted on the
label.
- When packaging your product, be sure to include applicable installation or system
software on CD or diskette, the certificate of authenticity, applicable end user
license agreements, and manuals.
- Please ensure that you include any documentation and accessories that were originally
shipped with your product. These items could include warranty cards, keyboard, mouse,
and connection cables. Failure to include these items will impact the value of your
trade. If you do not have these items, please contact sonycustomerservice@marketvelocity.com for further assistance.
If you follow the above packing guidelines and instructions, the product should
arrive in the same condition as when it left your site. If the product is damaged
during shipping and there is visible damage to the packing materials (box is dented,
ripped, smashed, etc.), Sony will take responsibility for resolving any claims with
the courier. If the packing is intact, but the product is not in the condition stated
by you in the quote process, Market Velocity will contact you directly to discuss
the product's condition and renegotiate the quote value. In the event there is no
trade value due to the condition of the product, you will be responsible for all
associated costs for recycling the product.*
* A recycling fee may be required in certain states. This recycling
fee will be waived when recycling a VAIO notebook or desktop and purchasing a new
VAIO product or PC.
Tracking
To track a package, click here
and select Package Tracking. You will find a real time status of any package shipped
via Federal Express.
Payments and Pricing
Typographical Errors
In the event that a product is listed at an incorrect trade value due to a typographical
error or miscalculation by the database, Sony Trade-in shall have the right to refuse
or cancel the transaction within seven calendar days after the date of the actual
trade (see Terms and Conditions).
Check delivery
All checks are mailed via the U.S. Postal Service to the address designated in your
transaction. Sony will issue your check approximately 30 days after we receive and
inspect your trade-in product. We must also receive your proof of purchase along
with your Acceptance Notification Email.
Missing checks
If you do not receive your rebate check within the check delivery period listed
above, please send an email message to sonycustomerservice@marketvelocity.com so that we can research
the issue for you.
Trade-In Products
Recycle/Disposal
Products that are deemed to have no remaining fair market value are appropriate
for recycling*. Market Velocity will facilitate the recycling process (see How It
Works http://sony.tradeups.com/How.aspx),
and you can be assured that all applicable EPA guidelines will be followed. Products
that are assigned a trade-in value may be traded in for a rebate check, or can be
donated to the National Cristina Foundation. In these cases, products received will
be refurbished as necessary and either donated or resold.
* A recycling fee may be required in certain states. This recycling
fee will be waived when recycling a VAIO notebook or desktop and purchasing a new
VAIO product or PC.
Determining Product Values
How do I determine the condition of my product?
Is the product in excellent working condition and needs no refurbishment? Has regular
maintenance has been performed on the product in accordance with manufacturer recommendations?
Is the body of the product clean (i.e., no smudges, ink marks, dents, stickers,
or scratches?

If so, choose Excellent. |
Is the product free from technical problems? (i.e., it does not make noise or run
slowly, is not missing pieces, does not have excessively worn parts, etc.)
Does the body of the product have only minor blemishes? (i.e., smudges, ink marks,
dents, stickers, or scratches).

If so, choose Good. |
|
The product has no major technical problems; it turns on and is in working condition
but has cosmetic defects. |
If so, choose Poor. |
Determining Product Condition (Printers)
How do I determine the condition of my printer?

The printer is in excellent working condition and needs no refurbishment. The printer
has been maintained within manufacturer's suggested schedules, feeds paper properly,
and has excellent print quality. The case of the printer and trays are clean (i.e.,
no smudges, ink marks, dents, stickers, or scratches) and are intact (i.e., no cracks,
broken or missing pieces). |
If so, choose Excellent. |

The printer is in good working condition and needs only minor parts (rollers or
separation pads) for refurbishment. The printer has been maintained within manufacturer's
suggested schedules. The printer has no technical problems (i.e., paper feeds properly
from primary trays and does not jam, has no unusual noises, has excellent print
quality, and has properly functioning control panel). The case and trays of the
printer have only minor blemishes (i.e., smudges, ink marks, dents, stickers, or
scratches). The case of the printer and trays are intact (i.e., no cracks, broken
or missing pieces). |
If so, choose Good. |

The printer has no major technical problems. The printer powers on, is in working
condition, and can produce a test page. The printer has minor cosmetic defects and
may have one or two cracked, broken or missing pieces that do not affect performance. |
If so, choose Poor. |
|
The printer has major technical problems (will not produce a test page, and/or will
not power on, and/or will not feed paper through machine, and/or has a malfunctioning
control panel). The case of the printer has large cracks, is missing most of the
original trays, and/or has broken or missing pieces). For quantity of 50 units or

Canceling a trade
In the event you wish to cancel your trade, simply send an email that includes your
name and quote number to sonycustomerservice@marketvelocity.com requesting that
your trade be canceled. Sony will send you an email confirming the cancellation.
You may be asked, but not required, to provide a reason as to why you opted to cancel
the trade.
